My letter to Smithsfield Foods and Tyson
About their gestation crates, a horrible way of keeping livestock.
Get rid of your gestation crates. The sad, sad truth about your criminal company. The incredible amount of torture shown in your horrendous facilities frightens me. The fact that you would tolerate such cruel people and torture of animals. How about we lock you in a crate, never able to move or get out. Your gums bleeding, teeth long since rotted away. Pain tearing through you due to the wounds scattered across your body. Sores eating away at you. Slowly going mad as thousands of people around you, friends and family, cry out for help, unheard by the people YOU hired. You watch as your child is thrown into a bin by worker. Your child screaming out to you for help as someone brings their fist down upon their head. You are powerless to help, but as you try to speak to them a whip licks your back, tearing at your skin, ripping open old wounds and filling your back with a fire you never thought possible. You cannot know if your child is alive, or if you will even live through the day. Imagine that. You cannot even, because YOU are the one with the power over helpless souls. That power, though, can also be used to at least be humane. Just do that. Or I would like to see you locked in a cage, never to see the light of day, not able to move an inch, not able to live, hope, dream and then, just die. With a cold blade running from the crown of your head partway into your throat. As everything would be lost you would at least know you could escape from the pains of that facility. Your facility.
